Huawei is backing near-packaged optics (NPO) rather than co-packaged optics (CPO) for its next-generation AI infrastructure, arguing that NPO offers a better balance of cost, manufacturability, reliability and serviceability as optical interconnects move deeper into large-scale AI clusters.
